Things To Do on the OBX - January 24, 2025
Good morning, Outer Banks! Here’s your daily dose of all things OBX for Friday, January 24, 2025. Today, the Outer Banks will enjoy partly sunny skies with temperatures reaching a high of 38°F (3°C) and a low of 28°F (-2°C) tonight. Breezy conditions will persist, so bundle up if you’re heading out. The National Weather Service has issued an advisory for slick spots on roads due to lingering black ice from earlier snowfalls. Stay cautious while driving.
The Atlantic Ocean water temperature is a brisk 44°F (7°C), so water activities are best left to the bravest among us!
National Peanut Butter Day
Celebrate the creamy, nutty goodness of peanut butter today by indulging in some of the many ways it transforms desserts. Peanut butter elevates everything from cookies to milkshakes, and its versatility shines in classics like peanut butter pies and cheesecakes. With one of the more famous examples being Johns chocolate peanut butter shakes.
In the Outer Banks, fudge is a staple treat, often featured in shops along the beach towns. The rich tradition of fudge-making here goes hand in hand with peanut butter fudge, one of the most beloved flavors. Stop by places like The Fudgery in Nags Head or Forbes Candies in Kill Devil Hills to pick up this delicious treat and celebrate National Peanut Butter Day the OBX way.
National Beer Can Appreciation Day
Today, we raise a can (literally) to the humble beer can, which revolutionized how we enjoy our brews. First introduced in 1935, the beer can has become a beachgoer’s best friend, offering portability and safety where glass bottles can’t tread.
Outer Banks breweries have embraced canning for their local craft beers, ensuring you can enjoy them from the beach to the boat. Here are some favorites:
Outer Banks Brewing Station (Kill Devil Hills): Canned brews include their signature lemongrass wheat beer.
Lost Colony Brewery and Café (Manteo): Look for their unique canned ales inspired by the area's history.
Weeping Radish Farm Brewery (Grandy): As the oldest microbrewery in North Carolina, they offer traditional German-style beers in convenient cans.
Cheers to a summer-friendly staple we can celebrate all year long!
Anniversary of Gold Discovered at Sutter’s Creek
On January 24, 1848, gold was discovered at Sutter’s Creek in California, sparking a rush of fortune-seekers. While the OBX isn’t known for gold mines, there’s a different kind of treasure to be found here: real estate investment.
Over the past two decades, the Outer Banks has transformed into a booming market for vacation rentals, beachfront homes, and businesses.
With the increasing demand for coastal getaways, buying an investment property or starting a business here could turn into a golden opportunity. The Outer Banks’ steady growth and enduring appeal make it a prime location to stake your claim.
