As Tropical Storm Debby continues to influence the Outer Banks, today’s weather is a mix of heavy rain, gusty winds, and stormy skies—perfect conditions for staying indoors and celebrating National Book Lovers Day with a great read.
Hazardous conditions, including a Flood Watch and Beach Hazards Statement, are in effect through this evening. Rainfall totals could reach up to half an inch today, with the potential for localized flash flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Winds from the south will be strong, gusting up to 31 mph, making beach activities risky with dangerous rip currents expected.

Tonight, the rain and thunderstorms will persist, gradually tapering off after midnight, but not before adding another tenth to a quarter of an inch of rain. The winds will slightly ease, but the breezy conditions will continue.
Looking ahead, scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible into the weekend, with temperatures remaining in the low to mid-80s.
